SMS scrubbing comes into effect: Hiccups for banking, e-comm ops as OTPs fail

Trial said the concept of registered templates for both SMS and voice communication has been introduced to prevent deliberate mixing of promotional messages into the transaction stream.

TRAI

  • Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) was established on 20 February 1997 by an Act of parliament to regulate telecom services and tariffs in India.
  • TRAI'S mission is to create and nurture conditions for growth of telecommunication in India with an objective to provide a fair and transparent environment that promotes a level playing field and facilities fair competition in the market. 

  • The Telecom Service Providers(TSPs) started to implement the second phase of SMS regulation on March 8, 2021
  • The functioning of banks and e-commerce firms were hit and several crucial services were disrupted such as sending of one-time password(OTP) by banks and e-commerce firms for several services.
  • The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trail) have recently notified that every SMS content will have to be verified before it is delivered to the users.
  • This process of verifying the SMS content is known as SMS scrubbing. This process was implemented on March 8 after several delays. As this system was rolled out, unverified and unregistered SMS messages were blocked by the telecom operators.

The cabs are reserved through web browser or a mobile app. It claims clock an average of more than 150000 bookings per day and commands 60 percent of the market shares in India. Cab aggregator Ola has announced that it has commenced construction of the world's largest two-wheeler mega- factory on a 500-acres site in Tamil-Nadu's Krishnagiri district in Tamil Nadu.
