Sikh fighter pilot memorial in U.K to honour Indians who fought in World wars.

  • Hardit Singh Malik was born on 23 November 1894 in sikh family in "Rawalpindi", pre-divided India.
  • Hardit Singh Malik first arrived in U.K in 1908 as 14-year-old at Balliol College, oxford university.
  • He become the member of the Royal Flying Corps during the First world war(1914-1918).
  • He became famous as the "Flying Sikh" as the first Indian and turbaned pilot with a distinctive helmet.
  • He died on 31 October 1985 in New Delhi.

  • England has approved the design foe a sculpture of an early 20th century Sikh fighter pilot "Hardit Singh Malik" for new memorial to be erected in the port city of Southampton.
  • The memorial will be created by English Sculptor Like Perry.
  • The memorial is built in memory of all Indians who fought in the World Wars.
